There are a few steps that patients need to take prior to receiving anesthesia for a procedure. First, you should not eat or drink anything at least 8 hours prior to surgery and refrain from smoking for 12 hours prior. You will also need to arrange for someone to accompany you to the surgery and drive you home afterwards. On the day of surgery, please do not wear any jewelry, contact lenses, or dentures. If you regularly take medications, they should be discussed with the doctor prior to surgery to ensure that they are okay to take before the surgery. Other than these guidelines, there is nothing else you need to do to prepare for surgery.
