Biopsy
In general, a biopsy is simply the removal of a tissue sample to determine if it is cancerous. In the dentistry world, teeth and gum samples can be sent for biopsy. Oral cancer can be diagnosed and a treatment plan can be established thanks to a biopsy. A certain type of oral biopsy, referred to as a brush biopsy, is used to identify oral lesions that warrant further testing.
If you have unexplained lesions in your mouth, they need to be examined by a dentist right away. They may or may not be cancerous, but a biopsy can help confirm this.
